Greetings Parents,
This year so far has been off to a rocky start from Military conflict with Iran, the Amazon on fire, Australian wild fires then floods, to now a World Wide Pandemic. The beginning of the semester kicked off with nine potential new members and a list of road events, mixers, and volunteering opportunities. Sadly, it all came to a halt mid-march following Spring Break. But, our chapter continued to prevail and push on to end the semester strong and united as one. We had an impeccable couple of months with our brothers and will hopefully be back to normal for the Fall 2020 semester. In spite of everything, we would like to share with you the joy the Spring did bring and some news. Thank you for your continued support! If you have any questions please reach out to us at any time.

Words from our President
Tanner Crampton
Brothers,
For those who don’t know me, my name is Tanner Crampton, a rising junior double majoring in Art Traffic Controlling and Aviation Management from Baltimore, Maryland. I am honored and humbled to have had the opportunity to lead guide and develop men committed to lives of excellence. Delta Tau Delta is such a unique organization dedicated to redefining the status quo of Greek Life. Focus on our core values of Truth, Faith, Power, and Courage to be our guide in everyday life. To hold our men accountable and to live a life of excellence, we offer many educational platforms and encouragement to get them through this tough year. We started very strong in the beginning with a new and eager executive board that is young and excited. My executive team held a retreat to focus on goals and communication as a whole to be able to provide the chapter with the best transparency and leadership we can offer. We held many events throughout the beginning of the semester that benefited our community, campus, and brothers. That challenged each individual to leave their legacy. Oh, by the way, welcome to the motto for the year, Leave a Legacy. Where we taught and encouraged everyone to own their passions and spread it to our communities. Without personal growth, you can’t show others the way of aspiration and drive. Unfortunately, it all had to come to a halt when COVID-19 took effect on our world. Everyone should have received an email announcing Iota Xi’s plans. Our executive board worked very hard to make sure all brothers were safe and that we were providing them with answers as they became and still do become available. We have canceled or postponed many of our events for the remainder of the semester, including our tenth anniversary formal that our alumni, arch chapter, central office, and brothers were all looking forward to attending. We know the transitions aren’t smooth, so to provide a sense of normality for our brothers, we began conducting virtual chapters to provide immediate updates and a space for those to relax and talk. Many brothers have created virtual platforms to hangout, play games, and communicate to keep in touch. I am incredibly impressed with the guys, my family, on their response level to everything that has been dealt in our direction. Keep up the excellent work, go out (Figuratively) and leave your legacy, and remember to stay true to yourself. Go forth with True, Faith, Power, and Courage. I am very proud of everyone and remember to continue to hold yourself accountable.

Michael Arenella
During my undergraduate days, I made a lot of decisions- but the best one, by far, was joining Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. My time in the fraternity taught me valuable leadership skills, provided me friendships that will last a life time, and was a giant reminder about something that I already knew, but the Ritual, along to my brothers, consistently reinforced: and that is to consistently try to be a better man, and elevate improve whatever you can around you. You have the power to make an impact. The lessons learned during the time I spent as Treasurer, on various boards, and helping plan and participate in different philanthropy events have been critical to my development today. Whether it was getting into my role at work, developing time management skills for when I was working full time and completing my MBA, or just being motivated by the exceptional men I am able to call Brothers, always have me wanting to improve on myself and be the best person I am; the best Brother, the best Global Citizen, and as good of a friend as I can be.

These members have gone above during the semesters and these hard times while we’ve had to transition to online classes. Robin, Vice President for two years now, continued to find ways this semester with his committee where members could do social events virtually or in groups of 9 or less members. Whether through virtual zoom hang outs, virtual games, or allowed outdoor activities. Seth Goldman, not only made a discord where members could go into to coordinate video games to play together, but has continued to be an active member by holding prior Executive board positions and now positions on committees. Nigel Moraes has been doing an amazing job bringing all social media platforms up, like our Instagram page, since 2018.

Beach Clean Up with Surf Club

One volunteering event (SAT, JAN 25) Delts were able to do was team up with the Surf Club to clean over 2 miles of Paradise Beach located in Melbourne, Florida.

Our founding fathers made a surprise visit to the house (03/01/2020) while all being in town for a Wedding. It was a Great Sunday getting to know the brothers that started the Iota Xi chapter at Florida Tech.

Spring Break (March 9-13) a group of our brothers took a trip to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. What a better way to travel but with your brothers.

Florida Tech Using 3D Printers to Make Face Shields for Health Workers

MELBOURNE, FLA. — As befits a university known for innovation and technology – as well as its community support – Florida Tech has harnessed the power of its constellation of 3D printers and the ingenuity of its faculty, staff and students to assist frontline workers in the Space Coast medical community. Using 3D printers at various locations on the university’s Melbourne campus and at its nearby Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Innovative Design, the team led by College of Engineering and Science Dean Marco Carvalho and including student project coordinator Juan Avendano Arbelaez, lab director Deep Patel and electronic lab manager David Beavers has produced and delivered dozens of face shields.
Students and staff were engaged in the production process and were quick to respond to the feedback provided by recipients, including local doctors who suggested minor alterations that were implemented on the same day. “It was very rewarding to see the appreciation of the heath workers who received these,” said Carvalho, who helped coordinate the effort and facilitate design improvements and distribution. “I’m extremely proud of our Florida Tech team that, without hesitation, jumped into action to work days, nights and weekends to help our community.”

Florida Tech Among Global Leaders in Climate Action

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Tech is among the global leaders in Climate Action, according to new rankings from Times Higher Education that recognize universities across the world for their social and economic impact based on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
Florida Tech was No. 36 out of 376 institutions from 70 countries in the Climate Action ranking in the 2020 THE Impact Rankings released this week. The Melbourne university was the only Florida-based school in the ranking and one of just 14 U.S. universities total, with the others including MIT, Loyola and American University.
The metrics examined in Climate Action included publication citations, research on climate action, low-carbon energy use, environmental education measures such as local programs on climate, and commitment to becoming a carbon-neutral university.
“Your inclusion in these rankings is in itself a great achievement and it marks your institution out as a global pioneer – demonstrating commitment not just to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals through its teaching, research and knowledge transfer, but also to embodying the goals in your institution’s internal practices, policies and procedures and providing verifiable evidence of your activities,” THE said in announcing the rankings.
