Dear Brothers,

This past year has been a pivotal moment in the history of our chapter. We have come a long way in terms of our achievements, both in and out of the classroom. We have also begun a campaign that will better strengthen our relationships with our alumni. We are excited to share the future with your involvement.

Message from the President
Joseph Uva

It has been a very eventful year here at the Florida Institute of Technology for the Iota Xi chapter. We are starting the year off with a 20 person new member class. While this may be small for state school standards, it was the second biggest on our campus for the semester. We also had a GREAT philanthropy event that built off of the success of previous soap hockey philanthropies, and we raised nearly 177 dollars for JDRF, which is significant for our recent history. This spring semester, we may have only had two men initiated, but they have been very well integrated and built a strong brotherhood bond quickly with our group of men. We were able to finally put flooring in our chapter room, as it has been a cement slab since we moved into the house six years ago. The new floor boosted morale a lot, and our formal at the space coast rocket garden went off without a hitch! Our consultant attended since he was doing his visit on the day of our formal, and he seemed to enjoy himself. We did this after our repeat of the soap hockey philanthropy, where we nearly doubled the previous semester's dollars raised through soap hockey. We were able to take home a court of honor gavel from the GREAT southern division conference as well.

When you look at Delta Tau Delta, even just from a technical perspective, it has so much to offer. In my time with Delta Tau Delta, I have learned not only how to manage people, manage my life, and manage to graduate, but what motivates me and what matters. It can not only teach you personal skills like leadership, communication, and financial strategies, but it can also do so much more. For me, Delts allowed me to put things into perspective even when there were a dozen little thoughts all vying for my attention. For instance, being president while doing senior design may have caused some immediate pain, but it gave me incredible joy to realize that I could do it all with the help of my brothers and by helping my brothers. The times where I got to sit down with brothers who were struggling to listen to their problems and put myself in their shoes have been some of the most impactful and humbling moments of my life. In a fraternity, your problems are not yours alone and that’s something very special; you don’t have to bottle things up. That safety net, those moments where you feel like crap and want to give up, but your brothers are there for you, those times you feel like doing something stupid but are convinced otherwise are what Delta Tau Delta is about. Without knowing that the Delts were always there for me I doubt I would have made it this far.

2019 Fall New Member Class

New Member Highlights

Trenton Wright

Hi, my name is Trenton Wright. I can to Florida from Montana and I have no regrets yet except maybe not bringing bug spray. I’m majoring in astrophysics and astronomy which means I’ll either make a lot of money or work as an assistant to some outdated singer. I joined the delta because I missed that sense of a close bond like a had with my brother back home. My whole life I have been around someone who has guided me and taught me right from wrong and to have that again seems like a step in the right direction for a successful future. I want to show this newfound society that being in a fraternity means so much more than having a few beers with the boys. It’s about having a group who loves you and cares about you and will stop at nothing to help you succeed. That’s me.

Jesus Aviles

$18M Health Sciences Research Center Announced
Source: Florida Tech Newsroom

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Institute of Technology will break ground in spring 2020 on a 61,000-square-foot Health Sciences Research Center that will help fill the growing demand for jobs in biomedical engineering and science and allow students and faculty to conduct critical research in labs equipped with the latest cutting-edge technologies, from virtual-dissection tables to atomic force microscopes.

The new, $18 million facility will double the size of Florida Tech’s undergraduate biomedical engineering program to 300 full-time, on-campus students, increase the size of the undergraduate premedical program from 150 to 250 students, provide over 20,000 square feet of classroom and training spaces, and allow students access to teaching laboratories that use augmented and virtual reality tools and space for orthopedics, tissue studies and advanced computational simulations.

“The excellence of a Florida Tech education and our unparalleled success in producing highly desirable graduates make this evolution on our campus and in our educational offerings a natural, powerful step forward,” said Florida Tech President Dwayne McCay.
